What are proportional valves?
Proportional valves are used for converting electrical signals into pneumatic pressure. As the electrical input is increased, the pressure output increases, proportionately.
As such, they are sometimes referred to as electrically controlled regulators.
How do they work?
There are two main types of proportional valves.
I/P converters convert current (I) input, typically as 4 ~20mA, into pneumatic pressure (P) output, whereas E/P converters converts voltage (E) input, usually 0 ~ 10VDC into pneumatic pressure (P) output.
There are a variety of different configurations for these valves. But essentially, a varying electromagnetic force is created, that precisely moves an internal mechanism such as a spool or diaphragm, which allows for a proportionate amount of flow or pressure.
What are the benefits?
- Fast, reliable, and accurate – ensuring maximum efficiency and control
- Operated remotely – reducing the need for manual operation
- Achieves stable pressure quickly – reducing cycle times and increasing longevity of your equipment
How to select the right proportional valve for your application
- What are you controlling? Pressure, flow.. ?
- What output range will be required?
- What is your input signal?
- What is your operating temperature?
- In what environment will it be operating? Wet, dirty, hazardous?
